COVID-19 infection is associated with a measurably increased risk of cardiovascular events — including heart attack, stroke, blood clots, and heart rhythm disturbances — in the weeks and months following infection. The Mechanisms

The Vaccine and Heart Risk — Clarified

There has been significant confusion between COVID vaccine-associated myocarditis and COVID infection-associated myocarditis. The key facts: Vaccine-associated myocarditis (primarily with mRNA vaccines, primarily in young males, primarily after the second dose) is real but rare — approximately 2–7 per million doses. It is typically mild and self-resolving. COVID infection-associated myocarditis is significantly more common and more severe than vaccine-associated cases. The vaccine protects against the more dangerous infection-related cardiac risk.

Who Needs Cardiac Monitoring After COVID?

• Anyone who had severe COVID (hospitalised) should have cardiac monitoring including ECG and echocardiogram
• Anyone with new chest symptoms, palpitations, or breathlessness after COVID recovery — regardless of severity of the original illness
• Athletes and those planning return to vigorous exercise after COVID — cardiac clearance before resuming intense training
