Fever and Infection Clinic in Hyderabad
Fever for more than 3 days. Rash. Severe body pain. Our walk-in fever clinic identifies the cause and starts targeted treatment — same day.
Fever is the most common reason for adult medical consultations in Hyderabad — particularly during the monsoon season when dengue, typhoid, leptospirosis, and malaria peak dramatically. Distinguishing viral from bacterial infection, and identifying specific tropical infections early, determines whether antibiotics are appropriate and whether hospitalisation is needed. Sri Anand Hospital provides a same-day fever assessment, blood tests, and a clear treatment plan.
Key Points
- Fever is not a disease — it is the immune system's response to infection and is generally protective.
- Antibiotics do not treat viral infections (common cold, flu, dengue, chikungunya) — they treat only bacterial infections.
- Signs of serious infection: high fever lasting more than 3 days, extreme weakness, rash with fever, or difficulty breathing.
- Dengue fever in Hyderabad peaks during July-November — rash + fever + joint pain warrants dengue testing.
- Typhoid requires 7-14 days of antibiotics — stopping early causes relapse.

Infections We Evaluate and Treat
Dengue Fever
High fever (2–7 days), severe headache and eye pain, muscle and joint pain (breakbone fever), rash, and risk of platelet drop. NS1 antigen positive in the first 5 days. Requires monitoring of platelet counts.
Typhoid (Enteric Fever)
Prolonged fever for 1–3 weeks, abdominal discomfort, relative bradycardia, rose spots. Caused by Salmonella typhi. Widal test and blood culture are diagnostic. Ciprofloxacin or azithromycin treatment.
Malaria
Cyclical fever with chills and rigors, severe headache, anaemia, and jaundice. Common in areas around Hyderabad. Peripheral blood smear and rapid antigen test are diagnostic. Antimalarials prescribed by species type.
Viral Fever
Most fevers are viral — influenza, adenovirus, EBV, CMV. Typically self-limiting within 5–7 days. Blood tests distinguish viral from bacterial infection. Antibiotics are NOT needed and NOT helpful for viral infections.
Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)
Burning urination, frequency, lower abdominal pain, sometimes fever. Urine culture guides targeted antibiotic selection. Recurrent UTI requires further investigation for predisposing factors.
Fever Assessment and Treatment
Clinical Examination to Find the Source
Throat, ear, lymph nodes, chest, abdomen — systematic examination identifies the infection focus and guides appropriate investigation.
Targeted Blood Tests Same Day
Full blood count (distinguishes viral vs bacterial), CRP, dengue NS1/IgM/IgG, Widal, malaria antigen, urine analysis — based on the clinical picture, avoiding unnecessary panels.
Antibiotic Stewardship
Antibiotics are prescribed only when there is a clear bacterial indication — identified source, rising CRP, neutrophilia, or positive culture. This protects you and the community from antibiotic resistance.
Hydration Management
Adequate fluid intake is critical in dengue (to prevent haemoconcentration), typhoid, and malaria. Oral rehydration guidance at home; IV fluids when clinically indicated.
Review and Monitoring
Dengue patients require platelet monitoring every 24–48 hours during the febrile period. We provide a structured review schedule based on the clinical trajectory.
Why Choose Sri Anand Hospital?
Treated by: Dr. Anand Karnam · DrNB (Neurology) · General Internal Medicine
"One of the most important things I do is stop unnecessary antibiotic prescriptions. Most fevers in Hyderabad are viral — dengue, chikungunya, flu — and antibiotics make absolutely no difference to these, while contributing to resistance that affects all of us."
