Paediatric Emergency Care in Hyderabad
When your child needs help now. PICU-trained paediatrician on call. Sri Anand Hospital, Chanda Nagar — accessible from Miyapur, Ameenpur, Lingampally.
Paediatric emergencies are terrifying — and every minute counts. Dr. Sushma B is PICU-trained (Paediatric Intensive Care Unit), giving her the skills and experience to manage severe paediatric emergencies including seizures, respiratory distress, severe dehydration, sepsis, and anaphylaxis. Sri Anand Hospital is accessible within 5–20 minutes from Chanda Nagar, Ameenpur, Miyapur, Lingampally, and surrounding areas.
Key Points
- Go to emergency immediately: breathing difficulty, persistent vomiting, seizure lasting more than 5 minutes, altered consciousness, or rash with fever.
- Febrile seizures (fits during fever) are common in children aged 6 months to 5 years — they are rarely dangerous.
- Dehydration in children progresses faster than in adults — early oral rehydration prevents hospitalisation.
- Head injury with loss of consciousness, repeated vomiting, or worsening headache needs urgent CT scan.
- In an emergency, call 108 — do not drive the child yourself if the situation is serious.

Paediatric Emergencies We Handle
High Fever with Altered Behaviour
A child with fever who is very drowsy, difficult to wake, having a seizure, or showing a non-blanching rash — requires immediate emergency evaluation.
Seizures and Convulsions
First seizure, prolonged seizure (more than 5 minutes), or cluster seizures — emergency assessment to determine cause, give emergency medication if needed, and prevent recurrence.
Respiratory Distress
Difficulty breathing, fast breathing, indrawn chest wall (retractions), blue lips, or wheeze that is not responding to inhaler — urgent assessment and stabilisation.
Severe Dehydration
Watery diarrhoea, persistent vomiting, not drinking, sunken eyes, dry mouth, reduced urine — IV fluids may be needed to prevent dangerous electrolyte imbalance.
Anaphylaxis and Allergic Reactions
Hives, swelling of face or throat, difficulty breathing, vomiting after an insect sting or food — a life-threatening allergic emergency requiring adrenaline.
Our Emergency Paediatric Care
Immediate Clinical Stabilisation
ABCDE approach — Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Disability (neurological), Environment. Dr. Sushma is trained in PALS (Paediatric Advanced Life Support) protocols.
Emergency Investigation
Rapid blood tests, blood glucose monitoring, ECG, and chest X-ray available on-site for urgent assessment. Blood culture before antibiotic administration for possible sepsis.
Emergency Medication Administration
IV antibiotics, IV fluids, emergency antiepileptics, bronchodilators, adrenaline — all available and administered without delay.
Coordination with Tertiary Care
For cases requiring PICU admission, ventilation, or surgery, we immediately coordinate transfer to appropriate tertiary centres with a full clinical handover summary.
Parent Communication During Emergencies
We maintain clear, calm communication with parents throughout — explaining what is happening, what we are doing, and what to expect next. A medical emergency is frightening enough without information being withheld.
